Deviantartist Questionnaire

How long have you been on DeviantArt?
Almost 3 years now! I joined right after Christmas in 2012 because my parents got me a tablet! (It's a Wacom Bamboo tablet... not sure about the specifics in terms of model, but its gray and about 8"x11" long)

What does your username mean?
Now that I think about it, I think I've answered one of these things before but anYWAYS:
Flare came from Flareon, which is my favorite Pokemon, and Chess came from my Runescape username (Chessgirl101). ((I made my Runescape account in sixth grade and was the only girl in the chess club at my public school... 101...)

Describe yourself in three words.
WEIRD LAME but determined (I think)

Are you left or right handed?
I'm right-handed!

What was your first deviation?
_{aight so apparently I did a journal like this around the saME TIME LAST YEAR... was it for the same thing omg}

What is your favourite type of art to create?
In terms of FAVORITE kinds of art, I really like doing digital art! I really enjoy working on fun poses or cartoony stuff, especially other people's cool characters.
Some of my favorite deviations are like these:

If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
A DIFFERENT art style than mine?? I would love to be able to master my own, but I guess if I could master or at least UNDERSTAND someone else's, I would want to be able to figure out how to do backgrounds... I'm always in awe of how scenery artists can pick out realistic lighting and convey textures and mood! That's always super cool...

What was your first favourite?
I dug through my favorites and see that the VERY FIRST ONE is in storage and the one after that is probably stolen artwork whoops, so here's the tHIRD MOST FAVORITE that I still like!

What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
MY FRIEND'S ART, and not just because they are my friend! I try to make friends with the artists who I admire a lot, and they're all really good?!?!?! like hot damn, leaving me all in the dust...

Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
I can't really imagine an all-time favorite. In the past, I thought I had a few favorites, but they're long gone by now, and over the years I discovered they weren't such great people. I don't think I have an ALL-TIME favorite, since the artists that inspired me in the past aren't necessarily my favorites anymore. In terms of NON-DA artists though, I really like Yoh Yoshinari (key animator for Evangelion, Panty&Stocking with Garterbelt, animation director for Little Witch Academia etc), Mine Yoshizaki (mangaka for Keroro Gunsou), Ken Sugimori (the character designer and art director of Pokemon), and Atsushi Ōkubo (mangaka for Soul Eater).

How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
This is pretty hard to answer because I feel like a ton of deviants have impacted my life in equally important ways; I can't really pick out one experience in particular. I'd say meeting ALL of my deviantart friends has been amazing and has impacted me in many personal ways that only I and they know about. 

What are your preferred tools to create art?
MY DRAWING TABLET AND A COMPUTER, but I also like working with pens and paper, the standard traditional art set... I doodle a lot in class.

What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
THIS IS TRICKY TOO; does this refer to where I get my IDEAS for the art or where I actually MAKE it? It's probably the latter, but I want to differentiate between the two really quickly because they're both pretty important in my creation process. When I'm outside and sitting by myself to stare at the world, going to class, or just walking around town, I always get ideas because I try to challenge myself: "How would I draw this," "Would this background work", "How would I draw that person in my style", "What kind of feeling does this environment give me, and why" etc. Then I go back to either my sketchbook, my phone or my tablet and start writing/sketching out ideas. A lot of times I take reference pics and then write down a note so that I have that feeling when I'm drawing. 

What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
Aside from meeting all my friends and occasionally winning adopt raffles, my favorite dA memory is waking up to see an excited comment from my friend who I drew gift art for. And yes, EVERY SINGLE TIME this happens becomes a favorite memory. I just love getting comments and seeing people happy! This is largely due to my involvement with since I've had the opportunity to draw so many rad OCs over the years, so thank you to everyoNE WHO HAS EVER LEFT A COMMENT ON MY ART ;A; // It means a lot to me.
